ISO DME Component Workgroup Meeting

The next meeting of the ISO Workgroup responsible for continuing development of international specifications for fuel system components and refueling connector for DME-powered vehicles. The Workgroup, part of ISO/TC 22/SC 41 (specifications of construction, installation, and testing of components for vehicles using gaseous fuels, including their assemblies and interface with refueling systems), is chaired by Sigurd Sonderegger of Volvo and includes participation by experts from more than ten countries.


ASTM DME Task Force Meeting

The next meeting of the ASTM Task Force responsible for continuing development of specifications for DME fuel. As additional testing provides new data and developments connected with commercial introduction of DME continues, the ASTM specification for DME (ASTM D7901 - Standard Specification for Dimethyl Ether for Fuel Purposes - which covers DME for use as a fuel in engines specifically designed or modified for DME and for blending with liquefied petroleum gas), continues to be modified as necessary. Work currently underway includes the development of specifications and test methods related to lubricity agent and odorant.

The DME industry's flagship event will provide an in-depth look at developments worldwide connected with DME's production, commercialization and use, with a special emphasis on the opportunities that ultra-low emission (zero sulfur oxides/SOx and near-zero particulates) DME can provide to address increasing demands for sustainable and low-emission transportation.

The DME 8 conference program will include commercial and technical sessions, a DME Fundamentals Short Course, equipment display, and top-level networking opportunities with those stakeholders most knowledgable about DME fuel production, infrastructure, handling, applications and use, and the opportunities opening up across the value chain as plans are made for large scale commercialization.

The 4th edition of this event and the accompanying trade exhibition included parallel sessions on commercial and passenger vehicle engine technology and new and alternative fuels, with presentations by IDA members Volvo Group Trucks Technology (Patrick Klintbom) and Ford (Werner Willems).

Bloomberg New Energy Finance's Summit is an invitation-only gathering of 1,000 senior executives, investors, and policy makers from a diverse range of sectors who are driving the transition to cleaner energy.  Among the more than 100 speakers and panel members on the program at the sold-out 2015 event were UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, former US Vice President Al Gore, UN Special Envoy for Cities and Climate Change Michael Bloomberg, and Canadian Minister of Natural Resources Greg Rickford.

DME was a topic featured on the program agenda, with both Rebecca Boudreaux of Oberon Fuels and Frank Bio of Volvo participating on a panel at the event.

Organized by Stanford's Precourt Institute for Energy in conjuction with the Vail Valley Foundation, the Forum brings influential leaders from government, academia and industry together to discuss important developments, technology, policy, and enabling factors related to increasingly green, secure and affordable ways to meet global energy needs.
